2013 SCRRF Scrimmage

Southern California FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) teams are welcome to attend the Southern California Regional Robotics Forum (SCRRF) annual Scrimmage. It's a great chance to test your robots, give your drivers practice, meet other teams, and get help with any problems you might be having with your robot prior to the FRC Stop Build Day on Tuesday, February 19, 2013. Rookie teams are highly encouraged to attend.

Why Should My Team Attend?

The most important thing to prepare for competition is Practice. The really great teams have hours and hours of practice with their robot before they get to a Regional. The Scrimmage provides the opportunity to practice in a low pressure yet realistic environment.

Practicedriving your robot on a reasonably accurate field
We will have a full-sized field that is made of wood rather than the metal of the official fields. Up to six robots will run at a time. When we have 4 or more robots that want to play we will play a timed match. Otherwise teams can take turns running their robots on the field.

Practiceoperating your robot connected to a field control system
Connectivity issues can be hard to diagnose. We will have control system experts to help resolve issues.

Practiceworking on your robot in an environment similar to the Pits at an event
Working in a 10’x10’ space with just the tools you brought is different than working in your shop. Find out what you REALLY need.  (note: in general somebody will have whatever tool you forgot and let you borrow theirs, but do you really want to depend on that?)

Practicegetting your team organized for travel
A great way to figure out procedures for permission slips, transportation, etc.

Practicegetting your robot inspected
We will have Inspectors available to go over your robot and find potential issues. It is NOT necessary to pass inspection to play at the Scrimmage. But we highly recommend that all teams take advantage of the opportunity. Deficiencies will be a lot easier to fix at home after the Scrimmage than if you suddenly discover them at your Regional. NOTE: Inspections at the Scrimmage are not official. You will still have to get inspected at your Regional.

Register your team by adding a row on the SCRRF 2013 Scrimmage Registration spreadsheet on

The team registration fee is $200.00.

Payment can be made either by electronic check via Chase Person-to-Person QuickPay, by paper check payable to Los Angeles Robotics, or by Credit Card (via PayPal). You do not need a Chase bank account to pay via electronic check and you do not need a PayPal account to pay via credit card. If your school needs an invoice to write a check, please contact Los Angeles Robotics Treasurer LeRoy Nelson at Treasurer@LARobotics.org.

Do not let finances keep your team away from this or any other SCRRF event. Registration fees cover event costs and fund scholarships for high school robotics team members. If your team is short of cash, the registration fee can be reduced or waived and we can find non-monetary ways for your team to support SCRRF. Please contact Los Angeles Robotics Treasurer LeRoy Nelson at 310-529-4637 if you need help to attend.

Pay by Electronic Check

We have a new electronic payment option that can be more convenient than writing a paper check. You can use Chase Person-to-Person QuickPay (https://www.chase.com/qp) to send payments from any bank account to SCRRF@LARobotics.org. You do not need a Chase account to pay via Chase QuickPay. There are no transaction fees for using this option. Please include your Team Number and the event ("2/17 Scrimmage") on the memo line of your electronic check.

Pay by Paper Check

To pay by paper check, bring a check for the registration fee payable to Los Angeles Robotics to the event or mail it to:

Los Angeles Robotics

Pay by Credit Card via PayPal

Payments can be made by credit card by using the PayPal Pay Now button below or at the event via PayPal credit card scanner. PayPal charges Los Angeles Robotics a transaction fee for each payment (2.2-2.7% + $0.30). Teams have the option of paying the Registration Fee or the Registration Fee plus the PayPal transaction fee.
