2018 SCRRF Scrimmage

Southern California FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) teams are invited to participate in the annual Southern California Regional Robotics Forum (SCRRF) Scrimmage. It's a great chance to test your new machines, give your drivers practice, meet other teams, and get help with any problems you might be having with your robot prior to the FRC Stop Build Day on Tuesday, February 20, 2018. Rookie teams are especially encouraged to attend.

SCRRF is a division of Los Angeles Robotics, a California Nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation.

Why Should My Team Attend the Scrimmage?

Practice: The most important prep you can do for competition is Practice.
The really great teams have hours of practice with their robot before they get to a Regional. The Scrimmage provides the opportunity to practice in a low-pressure yet realistic environment.

Practice driving your robot on a reasonably accurate field.
We will have all the Field Elements as per Game Rules, with up to six robots running at a time. Whenever a team is ready and queues up to the field, they can practice a timed match.

Practice operating your robot connected to a Field Control System.
WiFi death can seem insurmountable, and connectivity issues can be difficult to diagnose. We will have Control System experts on hand to help resolve issues, giving your team the opportunity to problem-solve before you get to the Regional.

Practice working on your robot in an environment similar to the Pits at an event.
Working in a 10’x10’ space with just the tools you brought is different than working in your regular workplace, and you will quickly learn what you REALLY need. And what you don't. (NOTE: realistically, another team will have whatever tool you forgot and let you borrow it, plus the venue will have a machine shop). Bring your safety glasses!

Practice getting your team organized for travel.
Provides an incentive to figure out the procedures you need for permission slips, transportation, getting meals organized, practice in the counting of three, dodging European and African swallows, etc.

Practice getting your robot inspected.
We will have Inspectors available to go over your robot and find potential issues. Inspections are performed according to the FRC inspection checklist. It is NOT necessary to pass inspection to play at the Scrimmage, but we highly recommend that all teams take advantage of the opportunity. Deficiencies will be a lot easier to fix at home after the Scrimmage than if they are suddenly discovered at your Regional. NOTE: Inspections at the Scrimmage are not official. You will still have to get inspected at your Regional.

Practice scouting other teams.

Machine Shop: The TiGears are graciously making available their machine shop to teams at the scrimmage. Bring your safety glasses!

Have Fun: It's fun to watch the other robots. Meet other teams and the occasional Shrubber.
