SCRRF-Time Warner Cable Scholarships

In recent years, the Southern California Regional Robotics Forum (SCRRF) has awarded two $500 scholarships each year. This year, SCRRF will award $1,000 scholarships to two or three Southern California high school seniors for their first year of college study in the fields of science, technology, engineering or math. Each award is non-renewable and will be recognized at the Los Angeles Regional FIRST Robotics Competition and at the FIRST Championships in St. Louis, Missouri. Two scholarships are funded by a grant from Time Warner Cable.

Student Eligibility Requirements

  • In senior year at a high school in Southern California (i.e., Los Angeles, Ventura, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Kern, San Bernardino or Orange counties).
  • Actively participates on a robotics team in Southern California:
      o  FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) team and/or
      o  FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) team and/or
      o  VEX Robotics Competition (VRC) team.
  • Participated or scheduled to participate in one or more qualifying regional events in Southern California. 
  • One Time Warner Cable scholarship is for students in the North area, which includes Ventura County, San Fernando Valley, Santa Clarita and Antelope Valley. 
  • One Time Warner Cable scholarship is for students in the Metro area of Los Angeles County. 

Submission Requirements

  • Student writes a 400-500 word essay titled “The Impact of FRC/FTC/VRC on my Future Goals.” All or selected portions of this essay may be posted on SCRRF’s web site. 
  • A copy of the student’s high school transcript. 
  • Letter of recommendation from one of the adult members of the student’s robotics team stating that the applicant has demonstrated the values of FRC/FTC/VRC and is a member in good standing. 
  • Letter of recommendation from one of the student’s recent science, technology, engineering or math teachers who is not a robotics team mentor. 
  • All materials need to be delivered or post marked by the due date to:
